Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar packed
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 can biscuit dough 8 biscuits; keep refrigerated until the last minute

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly butter a medium glass casserole dish.
  • Put the brown sugar, water, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring gently until the butter melts and most of the sugar dissolves.
  • Bring the brown sugar mixture just to a gentle simmer, with small bubbles forming around the edges, and avoid boiling it vigorously.
  • Separate the cold biscuit dough into 8 individual biscuits and arrange them in the prepared casserole dish with a little space between each biscuit.
  • Carefully pour the hot brown sugar syrup over and around the biscuits.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the dumplings are puffed and deeply golden and the syrup is bubbling all around them.
  • Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving, then spoon each dumpling into a bowl with plenty of caramel syrup.

Notes

These dumplings are best served warm on the day they are baked. Cover leftovers and refrigerate for up to a couple of days. Reheat a dumpling with some syrup in a microwave-safe bowl for a few seconds, just until the sauce loosens, or warm the whole dish briefly in a low oven.
