Brown Sugar Meatloaf Sauce

A sweet and tangy meatloaf sauce of ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar and Worcestershire, whisked in 5 minutes and spread on for the last 20 minutes so it caramelizes. Makes about 1 cup.

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Put all the ingredients in a small bowl and whisk well, until the sugar is mixed in and the sauce is smooth.
  • When the meatloaf has about 15 to 20 minutes of baking time left, spread the sauce over the top in an even layer and return the meatloaf to the oven.
  • Bake about 20 minutes more, until the glaze has caramelized over the top and the center of the meatloaf reaches 160°F on a food thermometer (165°F for a ground turkey or chicken meatloaf).

Notes

Makes about 1 cup, enough to glaze a 2-pound meatloaf. Serving = about 2 tablespoons of sauce.
