Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter plus more for pan
  • 2 Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each
  • 2 cans crescent roll dough 8 oz each
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 8 oz lemon-lime soda
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 13" x 9" baking dish with butter.
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples into 8 wedges each.
  • Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll triangle, starting from the wide end. Place in the baking dish.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt over medium heat. Stir until smooth.
  • Pour the caramel sauce over the dumplings.
  • Pour lemon-lime soda around the edges of the pan, avoiding the tops of the dumplings.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and extra sauce.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, try adding a sprinkle of nutmeg to the caramel sauce.
