Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 - 3 lb green cabbage cored and cut into 6–8 wedges
  • 1 lb thick-cut bacon left whole or cut into large chunks
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Pour water into the bottom of a 5–7 quart slow cooker to prevent scorching.
  • Layer cabbage wedges into the slow cooker, packing them in tightly and pressing down slightly if needed.
  • Arrange bacon over, around, and between the cabbage wedges, tucking pieces down for even distribution.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours without lifting the lid, allowing cabbage to become tender and absorb flavor.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Optionally remove bacon and crisp in a skillet for added texture.
  • Serve cabbage and bacon together in bowls with some of the cooking broth spooned over the top.

Notes

Serve with boiled or mashed potatoes and a side of mustard or horseradish for balance. Don’t skip the broth—it’s full of flavor.
