green cabbage
cored and cut into 6–8 wedges

thick-cut bacon
left whole or cut into large chunks

Instructions
Pour water into the bottom of a 5–7 quart slow cooker to prevent scorching.
Layer cabbage wedges into the slow cooker, packing them in tightly and pressing down slightly if needed.
Arrange bacon over, around, and between the cabbage wedges, tucking pieces down for even distribution.
Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours without lifting the lid, allowing cabbage to become tender and absorb flavor.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Optionally remove bacon and crisp in a skillet for added texture.
Serve cabbage and bacon together in bowls with some of the cooking broth spooned over the top.
Notes
Serve with boiled or mashed potatoes and a side of mustard or horseradish for balance. Don’t skip the broth—it’s full of flavor.
