Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound shaved steak fresh
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon for the steak; 1/2 teaspoon for the roll topping
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package sweet bread buns 12 buns; keep the buns connected when slicing
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme not ground

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and green bell pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened.
  • Add the shaved steak, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, the garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Break up the steak with two forks as it cooks. Check the beef with a food thermometer instead of going only by its color: cook to at least 145°F, then let it rest for at least 3 minutes before assembly.
  • Slice the connected buns in half horizontally and place the bottom half on a baking sheet. Spread the steak mixture evenly over it, add the provolone, and replace the bun tops.
  • Mix the melted butter, dried thyme and remaining 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Brush over the bun tops. Bake for 17–20 minutes, until the tops are golden and the cheese has melted.

Notes

Cook the steak to at least 145°F and rest it 3 minutes before assembling. Keep hot sliders at 140°F or warmer at a party.
